The Guardian Series

The Sentinel
The first of the Guardian Series; an exercise in multiple different sculptures all from blocks of wood of the exact same size.

Sentinel contains rusted steel, carved oak, copper sheet and wire, and glass. The piece measures about 20" X 4" X 4", and the steel is finished with polyurethane and the wood is finished with an antique oak stain with min wax polish.
Revolver

The oak I used in the Guardian series came rough cut from a saw mill near where I lived in Pennsylvania several years ago, while working for Commodore Computers. I happened to obtain some oak 4X4 fencing posts, and boards that I felt deserved a more interesting life.
These posts, along with a few planks, became a futon-style sofa that I still use, and the legs of two end tables. The end tables eventually lost their direction and were replaced, taken apart and stored as raw material, until the day came for their transformation.
Revolver contains copper, steel, a poly-carbonate sphere and a very unique antique flower vase frog. The carved oak is finished with polyurethane, and measures about 20" X 4" X 4".

Apogee
Carved oak finished with stain and wax. The top is a glass ball about 3 inches in diameter, nestled into the top of a rusted horse-drawn carriage wheel hub. Through the spoke openings you can see flame colored copper peeking out. The 'wings' are carved maple also finished with wax, and then we have copper wire finishing things off.
Yin Yang

White and black glass wrapped in copper wire sits within carved niches in tung-oil finished oak, with brass end-caps.

Inner Peace
Carved oak with a glass finial centered within a hammered, polished, heat-colored copper dish, topped with a large glass magnifying lens. Maple and copper wire round out the elements of this piece.
Dancer
This copper-caped dancer in oak sports a crystal head and leaps right off the wall. Measuring about 18" X 4" x 3".

Yin Yang
My first use of old world globes, this piece has hammered heat treated copper with embedded glass marbles and ball bearings, mounted on a cork background with mahogany frame.
Zona Temporata
Let's see, we've got copper sheet, old world globes, lamp parts, plumbing parts, glass brass and garden tool parts. It's a crazy universe out there.

Artifact
Scientists concluded that this is a primitive representation of our solar system, or some solar system anyway, made of hammered copper, glass, steel, brass and an old world globe. This amazing artifact was discovered buried deep in my basement.
Calling this Moon Shot
I think it had a different title many years ago when I made it... Fish eye mirror, net, wood and feathers. The large metal frame was an add-on that has a glass front.

Silos
Came up with this wacko idea of converting a silo into a home years ago, and kind of had that in mind while building this. It started out with two beautiful 4 inch glass lenses, but sometime during construction I sorta dropped one. The fish-eye mirror looked pretty cool too. The brass knobs are two sections that open, the background is cork and the frame rope.
Comet
This piece is another wood collage with a steam-bent wood wrapped acrylic disc at the head. The wood has been charred and then finished with polyurethane. The yellow is just paper, where any printed image could be placed, and the piece usually hangs at an angle, coming down comet-like. I'm just running out of wall space.

The big 'C'
I don't know, I just wanted to create a collage within an odd-shaped frame is all. The birds are carvings my Father did.
61st Street
One of my oldest pieces I still have around. Driftwood from the coast of Maine on cork.
